Butterfly

Image
Description: For this activity we were working with watercolors and oil pastels. We first traced the wing of the butterfly onto our paper. We then gave the wing some design. Next, we chose either warm or cool colors to fill in those designs. You then used watercolors to fill in the background using contrasting colors from your wing! Extention Activity: You could have your students actually watch the life cycle of a butterfly by ordering a butterfly kit and releasing them when they are at their final stage a butterfly!

Seasons

Image
Description: In this activity we were learning about the different seasons and created an image that compared and contrasted two different seasons. We first thought of a few ideas of things we see in nature during different seasons. We then picked out two and made trees in them. After our trees were made we added deatails to give it that summer, winter, fall, or spring vibe. When that was finished we cut out peices and glued them on going every other to give it an effect of contrasting seasons!  Extention Activity: You could have your students write a story about there favortie season and why.

Clay

Image
Description: For this activity we were using clay and different clay startegies to create different foods. We had to pick three different foods to create. For my example I created a cucumber, chicken breast, and kiwi. We learned how to score the clay so that we were able to mold it togther to create the stems. Finally, we painted them and let them dry!  Extention Activity: As an extention to this unit you could have your students draw pictures of what they ate that night for dinner and fill out a worksheet classifying what food group that it aligns with.

Print Making

Image
Description: This project we used print making mats as part of the lesson. We got to choose 3 differnt types of paint and a whole bunch of different designs to print onto our papers. After we printed them onto the construction paper we gave them all a title and a breif description about what they were and why we picked them.  Extention Activity: As an extension activity you could have your students go around outside and find things from a specifc season of the year and print them onto a paper so show different times of the year.

Perspective Drawing

Image
Description: This activity was a great example of perspective. We used a specific point of the paper and built off of it to show that perspective. We created different size boxes and made them look 3D and then drew lines to the center point to show the perpective.  Extention Activity: As an extention of this activity I you could have your students find differnt things around the school and look at them from all different angles to show persepctive of things as you move.

Dr. Suess and Whoville

Image
Description: In this activity we used a bunch of different folds and designs to create a whoville looking project. We used different tabs to glue down the folds and were able to build the creatioins as high as we wanted creating a cool peice!  Extention Activity: As an extention activity you could read your students an assortment of Dr. Suess stories and have them create there own Dr. Suess book.

Watercolor Galaxies

Image
Description: This was the lesson that I had to present to the class. For this activity students were introduced to 6 different watercolor strategies. They were required to use 3 of them in there galaxy. The students were to make a landscape using watercolors and also incorprate different constellations in their projects. In the end they would have a beautiful looking galaxy!  Extention Activity: As an extention students could use their knowledge on galaxies and incorporate it into a science lesson by creating a solar system to go along with their galaxies!
